The brothers Otto and Fritz Maire, of Ponts de Martel, started their factory making pocket watches in the Swiss town of Lengnau (Longeau) in December 1903. Maire Fréres became Maire Fréres & Cie in 1907, taking over Gottlieb Beck's factory near the railway station.
