Ebauches S.A. 1938 watch movements catalogue

Deniss Fedotovs, 17.01.2026., 12:10

In November 1938, the #4 catalogue of watch movement calibers produced by Ebauches S.A. companies was published. The catalogue has almost 180 pages and features hundreds of movement images with parts lists from A. Schild, FHF, A. Michel, Felsa, Aurore-Villeret, Venus, Betlach, Arogno, ETA, Fleuer, Peseux, Chezard and Unitas.

Since 1935, when previous known catalogue was published, Chezard had joined the Ebauches SA, so it has one of the largest sections, as other manufacturers have only additions since previous catalogue publishing listed.

The page layouts looks similar to previous catalogues. Interesting detail - for each caliber maximum height has been added (which might be a bit higher than normal height).

The catalogue still lists some cylinder escapement movements, looks like pin set movements are not there anymore, there are couple chronographs listed (Venus 131(CHR) and Venus 103(CHR), majority of movements have 15 - 17 jewels and quite a lot of movements with indirect centre seconds are listed. Also transition to more modern straight shapes of bridges can be noticed.

The catalogue seems to be very rare, I haven't noticed another copy anywhere and some online databases (like ranfft) specifically mention that information about some movements represented in catalogue can't be found anywhere. I had come across few random scanned pages like the ones from this catalogue, but it could be that those originaly were not part of the catalogue, but part of some information package about new calibers sent to watchmakers, which seems to be a common practice those days.

Information about all watch movements listed in Ebauches S.A. 1938 catalogue is already available in The Watchmakers App.
